The Texas Education Agency has the responsibility of assessing public school students on what they have learned and determining district and school accountability ratings. Ratings are assigned to every campus and district in the Texas public education system each year.
Performance Index Goals are used to determine if a district or campus receives a Met Standard or Met Alternative Standard rating. They must meet targets on at least three indexes.
Distinction designations are awarded to districts and campuses in recognition of academic achievement in Reading/ELA, Mathematics, Social Studies, Top 25 Percent Student Progress, Top 25 Percent Closing Performance Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.
