Lancaster ISD Named Small District Winner in 2018 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards

Houston, TX/Lancaster ISD – On May 6, H-E-B announced statewide winners of the 17th annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards during an awards ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Houston. During the ceremony, H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt personally handed out $430,000 in cash awards and grants, and congratulated eight educators, two school districts, one early childhood agency and a public school board for being among the best in Texas.

During the evening Lancaster ISD was named as the winner in the Small District category.

“I felt a sense of validation for the outstanding dedication the Lancaster ISD team has for ensuring student achievement. For several years, the Lancaster ISD team—past and present leadership, school board, parents, students, city stakeholders and educational partners—have worked diligently to ensure that our students receive More Than a Diploma and have self-sustaining success throughout their lives,” Lancaster ISD Superintendent Elijah Granger said. “It is an honor to be recognized by H-E-B for our outstanding work.”

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Award is designed to recognize school districts and is based on the following criteria:

  • Commitment to student achievement through innovative programs
    Parent/Community involvement
    • Professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators

“This honor highlights outstanding student achievements that our students are experiencing on a daily basis,” Mr. Granger said, “Without question, Lancaster ISD is providing first class educational experiences for the students and community at-large. We are one of the best school districts in the state.”

During the awards ceremony, H-E-B officials presented Lancaster ISD with a check for $50,000.

“In Lancaster ISD, we change lives for generations to come. And, because we recognize the importance of getting a head start on teaching and learning and in preparing all students for college and career readiness, we plan to use the $50K H-E-B Excellence in Education Award money to establish 529 College Savings Accounts for our 2018-2019 incoming kindergartners,” Mr. Granger said. “This will help instill a college-ready mindset in all kindergarten students and assist their families with financial planning for their post-secondary education.”
