Parents, students, and community members came out to join in a myriad of fun. The festivities began on the parking lot with a jumbo trailer of electronic games. The entry way was abuzz with an art gallery of original work created by one of Lancaster Middle School’s own—Erin Sealey. As you walked past the gallery, more fun was awaiting.
The Library was arranged with exhibits of student effort. Dressed in character LMS student Jacayla Alabi provided the narration as visitors filed past an exhibit of African American history artifacts. On display was a looped video of student engagement; throughout the room were tables that displayed evidence of classroom rigor for all subject areas.
There was a lot of learning and laughter throughout the evening. The PTA presented a financial literacy
workshop to aid participants in the development and enhancement of their personal financial fitness. Younger siblings had tons of fun in the gymnasium with a large bounce house and giant puzzles. Parents and students rotated through classrooms as they played games.
While playing one of the games, a parent commented, “Wow, you have to know a lot!” It was confirmation that the S.T.E.M. Family Fun night was successful in engaging parents in rigorous thinking and problem solving experiences at Lancaster Middle School.
